What’s your level of transparency?

A few days ago someone gave us a call – a prospective client.  He said he’d been researching on the web, then came across EpicRealm’s website and felt…

“…you guys were the most trustworthy.”

Watch the video below to hear how that got Alex thinking about transparency:

So – what’s your take on transparency?

How do you feel about being transparent on the web?

What are the upsides… or downsides to transparency?

Leave a comment below –  we’d love to know what you think!

As you probably already know, this was a good video.

I think that transparency is CRUCIAL for business especially as we move our society online. However, I do think that many people fear being on video. I think it’s a combination of insecurities and being overwhelmed by “all the people that will watch”.

When I’m having a video done, I try to imagine that I’m talking to my best client or the perfect prospect (just one) and talk as sincerely and honestly to that person through the lens. I think that this helps people to feel that I’m trustworthy – I don’t think that transparency is about sharing “everything” about yourself.

I agree – people like it when they can see that you are approachable and personable. You can paint a picture before they meet you in person, and they can trust that will be who you are when you meet. I recently had a client coming from another country to brush up on her English, and she picked me because I had a video on my site and she could hear me speak. As Deirdre says, you PICK what you want to promote about yourself and your company, and if it is compelling and trustworthy enough, people will choose you! :)

Cool, Alex.  I not only had the experience of you being real and accessible, but quickly got that it would be relatively easy to share myself and my colleagues with others through my own site.  We need to talk.  -Thomas Griggs
